Five for Friday 602

Welcome to the weekend,

Here are five things I thought worth sharing this week.

Lava flows into an Icelandic town.

The most borrowed books from American public libraries in 2023.

Flaubert and his distaste for normal life. This piece reviews a new edition of his letters, and describes how the author despaired of ‘real’ life and the mediocrity of most people and instead strove to create wondrous worlds in his fiction. Discontent with the world and a desire to create and appreciate beauty are qualities driving any creative person. It’s what makes the work of ‘creating’ worth it – you realize a new creation. All the more important in fiction, where you’re building from the ground up.

Researchers found a huge ancient city in the Ecuadoran Amazon, hidden by vegetation for centuries.

Feeling Stuck? Here’s how to “De-Bog Yourself“.

Currently reading: “The Origin of the Work of Art” by Martin Heidegger

Have a great weekend.
