Five for Friday 116

Hello and Happy Friday!

This past week the husband and I have been diligently implementing our newly acquired knowledge of salt and fat, by way of Samin Nosrat’s book and Netflix series. Lots of seasoning cuts of meat hours ahead of time and adamantly ascertaining that pans are preheated before the oil or butter is added. The phrase, “making (vegetables) sing” is being used just as liberally as the salt, and the Brussels sprouts – my favorite – have been twice as delicious lately.

Here are the links I’ll be perusing this weekend:

This detailing of the battle over the Flintstone house.

The story of how a fringe hotel became the hallowed ground of Hollywood.

An interesting observation on the zero-waste movement.

I am ecstatic to see this article on the Nature Cure! Finally, a formal method for what we have known for decades; spending time outside is good for you.

Finally, a fascinating dispatch describing one woman’s childhood in a cult, and her story of dealing with the consequences of others’ choices.

Have a wonderful weekend!
