Five for Friday 425

Welcome to Friday,

I’ve been on sabbatical this week, very much enjoying some time away from the internet and computer. This weekend, in celebration of the U.S. holiday, we are taking a road trip through the German countryside. We’ll be seeing the sights and hiking in the hills – a perfect combination over a long holiday weekend.

Here is the best from around the web:

Lady Broughton’s magnificent imitation glacier.

Brautigan Library, located in Vancouver, WA, this library is filled with unpublished manuscripts.

Tyler Cowen and Patrick Collison on a “New Science of Progress.” How do we measure progress, and how do we, in turn, produce more of it? A study of progress would examine the most effective methods of teaching students and of implementing breakthroughs in science, medicine, and technology, among others.

Arachne: This Greek myth on the origin of the Spider is also an interesting story about the power of perception.

A humorous compilation of questions and answers on mundane topics from Nobel Prize Winners.

Currently reading: Emma by Jane Austen

Have a wonderful weekend.
