Five for Friday 301

Welcome to the weekend,

So far, 2021 has been an exercise in keeping our wits about us. I’ve visited eight states, bought a car, embarked on a new writing journey, and welcomed a new nephew all in the past two weeks. Here’s hoping the rest of the year mellows out a bit!

Here is the best of what I’ve been reading:

I enjoyed reading LessWrong’s 100 Tips for a Better Life. These are quality suggestions, like reducing the amount of objects in your workspace to maintain focus and the incredible benefits of weight training.

Nietzsche’s Ten Rules for Writers is a surprising – even for the astonishing Nietzsche – contemplation of the role style and forethought must take in writing – or any project, really.

David Perell on the differences between “Beer Mode and Coffee Mode” and why both are necessary for quality work and important breakthroughs. As David opines, “The problem with traditional productivity advice is that it doesn’t take beer mode seriously.”

This newsletter asked several interesting questions about the coming change in workforce norms, factories, and technological progress. For example, how should we get the 25 million people unemployed during the pandemic back to work?

While I’m sure you’re familiar with the fact George Washington Carver invented peanut butter, how about the staple’s history since then? From Smithsonian Magazine, a Brief History of Peanut Butter.

Have a beautiful weekend!
