Five for Friday 104

Happy Friday to you,

This soggy weather has me reaching for endless mugs of coffee and tea. My recent favorite has been Bigelow’s Constant Comment, with its spicy orange notes. It makes a delicious afternoon pick-me-up! The five reads I am looking forward to digging into this weekend are:

This delightful visual history of the American public library system. Pairs well with this entertaining story about librarians tracking down elusive titles.

This photo collection of the understated beauty of the American road trip.

Harper’s Bazaar re-ran a lovely September 2018 profile on Karl Lagerfeld as news of his passing this week shook the fashion world.

And, while we are on the subject of fashion, the consumerism and problem of fast-fashion is making headlines. On a friends recommendation, I’m looking deeper into ethical fashion and watching “The True Cost,” a documentary on the environmental and human cost to produce the massive quantities of clothing consumers purchase.

As I’m sure you’ve heard, the Oscars are this weekend. I do always try to watch as many of the films nominated for Best Picture as I can, even if I don’t watch the actual ceremony. I think it’s interesting to see what films Hollywood finds representative of the culture for the current year. This illuminating and hilarious interview sheds light on how the Academy sometimes votes the way they do. **Language warning on the interview link.
