Five for Friday 618

Welcome to the weekend,

Here are five things I thought worth sharing this week:

Writer and photographer Craig Mod on the Continuous Uninterrupted Solo walk and having the experience of a thing before you can describe the thing.

Did you know Spain was the first nation to codify an eight-hour workday – and that they did so way back in 1593?

My interest in Japanese design and philosophy continues, this time with a winding post tracing a bit of history and much of the dissociation between written and spoken Japanese. For example, there are more than fifteen different spellings for the term ‘life’! Also, what an incredible image at the top of the piece!

This week marked the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s world-premiere performance of his Ninth Symphony in Vienna. This was his final completed symphony, and the work which gave the world the famous “Ode to Joy” chorus.

Writers’ blocks; isn’t it interesting how moving something with the hands can help the mind to breakthrough the fog of a setback or puzzle?

Have a great weekend.
