Five for Friday 438

Welcome to the weekend,

I will be exploring Brussels and a few other cities in Belgium by the time you read this. I’m learning very quickly to take advantage of a sunny weekend when it comes along!

Here is what I’d like to share this week:

An exploration of how Marlene Dietrich’s adopted star persona revealed her true personality.

She had the “idea that one’s life, one’s autobiography, is nothing other than what one has read;” a literary education with Elizabeth Hardwick.

How West Germany pioneered the “Do No Harm” environmental philosophy. While this piece focuses on how Germany took the precautionary approach of banning chemicals and processes which might do harm – as opposed to the reactive approach of banning things only after something goes wrong, it also concedes the best option is likely finding a balance between a precautionary and reactive approach, with which I agree.

Kipchoge breaks his own marathon record again, completing the race right at two hours. What an incredible athlete.

Dror Poleg on The Rise of the 10x Class.

Currently reading: Dracula by Bram Stoker

Have a creative weekend.
