Five for Friday 329

Welcome to Friday,

I am very excited about this weekend’s links, so let’s get right to them!

Seth Godin on Avocado Time. When you have the ideal opportunity, it’s best not to waste it. “Without being bound to the fulfillment of promises, we would never be able to keep our identities…”. Hannah Arendt on Forgiveness.

Cal Newport and slow productivity. Newport examines the work of Galileo and Newton, who each produced an impressive amount of work over their respective careers, yet both men spent most of their days slowly. Looking at their days and weeks, they don’t seem to be accomplishing much, but viewed over the “slow productivity” measure of years, they were incredibly prolific. How then, can we translate their working habits into our modern society, which is dominated by fast measures of days and weeks, if not hours?

How modern researchers are still correcting the mistakes of 18th century map makers. What’s fascinating is that while the boundaries on maps may not line up with the physical boundary on the ground, the map boundary is still the legal boundary of ownership.

The Early Years of Cleopatra. What was the famed ruler of Egypt up to before her fateful rendezvous with Rome?

Have a beautiful weekend.
