Five for Friday 637

Welcome to Friday,

Here are five things I thought worth sharing.

On “old-timey animals” being the hot new trend in book covers, and the wave of trends in book design.

Irving Penn was a celebrated and influential portrait photographer, a landmark talent in fashion photography, and Vogue magazine’s premier photographer. His “Small Trades” project is a series of portraits of small tradesmen with their tools. The butchers, washwomen, bakers, and other trades represented were all real working men and women from Paris, London, and New York invited into his simple New York studio. The results are gorgeous.

Robert Caro on why he bought a pre-fab building for his office space; “I can’t lose the days”.

“Do you know there’s a section of our customer base that buys a fresh Moleskine every time they come into a store? Once a week, some people. We have no idea what they do with them.” If they’re anything like me, they gather multiple colors and sizes over the years and decide what to do with them later.
Yes, I am a proud notebook-carrying member of the Moleskine tribe. (I have switched to Leuchtturm while in Germany, though.) I wasn’t familiar with the Bruce Chatwin-Moleskine connection; they had me at Hemingway!

Meta is rolling out new features on Instagram aimed at protecting teenagers on the app.
