Kyle Chaka has published observations on the state of “New Media” in the form of a list of “new rules.” It does read like satire at points; for example, “New platforms emerge all the time and some of them become very popular. The best way to succeed online is to surf the upward wave of a new platform by committing 100% and catering all of your output to it.” It does, however, describe our (absurd) media reality accurately.
In 17th-century Holland, it was fashionable to sit for a still-life painting with your books. (Further evidence books have always been cool.)
