Five for Friday 630

Despite the ongoing war, Ukraine’s book culture continues to thrive.

Is there a case to be made against travel? Probably, however, this piece is not that. It is more of an argument for noticing what’s around you, wherever you are, than an argument against traveling.

What humanity’s oldest surviving work of literature, the Epic of Gilgamesh, can tell us about Sumerian society.

Lewis Lapham, longtime editor of Harper’s and the founder and editor of the literary Lapham’s Quarterly, has died.

Currently reading: “Nature” by Ralph Waldo Emerson

Have a creative weekend.
