Five for Friday 616

Welcome to Friday,

Here are five things I thought worth sharing this week.

“Dare to be wise!”; a short piece on what Immanuel Kant anticipated about thinking and the Algorithm.

Nabokov’s Art of Fiction interview with the Paris Review from 1967.

The botany of magnolias – plants are amazing.

One hundred and one additional pieces of advice from Kevin Kelly. Lots of gems in here, but I especially liked this thought; “Read a lot of history so you can understand how weird the past was; that way you will be comfortable with how weird the future will be.”

This month marks the 250th anniversary of Caspar David Friedrich, whose Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog has become an icon of the Romantic era. I found this piece detailing Friedrich’s philosophy and life to make his enveloping landscapes all the more fascinating.
