An important look at how online opt-in polls produce misleading results, and why that matters. Basically, these optional online polls skew young and toward minorities, many responders provide ‘bogus’ answers, and resulting polls yield inaccurate and wildly abnormal results. Then, those inaccurate results get reported in the media, fueling the spread of those inaccuracies.
