Welcome to the weekend,
After a whirlwind month of travel, I will be relaxing and enjoying being at home for a quiet summery weekend.
Here are five things I found worth sharing this week:
One of my lifelong dreams has always been to take a train in Russia, while reading Dostoevsky. Obviously the ongoing conflict with Ukraine complicates that dream. So, it was lovely to come across a fellow bibliophile also having mixed thoughts about their love for Russian literature in the midst of the current reality.
Kurt Vonnegut’s letter to the head of a school board who burned his books.
I found N. S. Lyons’ interview with philosopher Matthew B. Crawford to be an enlightening look at theories about our modern malaise and how we arrived here. The Enlightenment, conflict and growth, post-modernism, the attention economy, origins of power; all timely and fascinating topics.
On the current ugly trend in book cover design.
Let’s take a look at the state of the music industry when a single man owned all copyrighted music, shall we?
