Five for Friday 418

Welcome to Friday,

Another sabbatical week in the books! The past six days have been full of contemplation, sunshine, classical music and lots of reading. After all our moving and traveling over the past year, it’s nice to finally land in a place long enough to simply relax.

I hope you find some time this weekend to simply relax, as well.

Here is the best from around the web:

Three tales of creative incompetence, from the insightful Mason Currey. Perhaps feeling inadequate is simply part of the process of creating something new, no?

My Texan roots require me to regrettably inform you Naomi Judd has died.

“Perhaps the web is not a microscope but a blender … . In which case, how do you stop your personality from being puréed?” Removing ourselves from the grind is the best way to regain perspective on what we are actually working or looking for.

“Our problem is not how these games are played, but the fact that so many people in positions of power keep taking them seriously.” – Cal Newport – drawing on Jonathan Haidt’s recent Atlantic piece – tackles the recent flurry of headlines surrounding Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter.

How An Incan Nobleman Contested Spanish History.” I love accounts like this where a document – or book, in this case – is found to contest the usual narrative. It goes to show how complex recording history really is.

Currently reading: Brave New World (again) by Aldous Huxley

Have a lovely weekend.
