Five for Friday 230

Welcome to the weekend,

May your coffee be strong, especially now. The highlight of my week has been the freshly roasted coffee beans my brother was kind enough to send us. We did them justice and ground the beans at home, then brewed in a French Press. Sometimes it’s the simple things which keep you sane and happy, like a pound of beans and freshly brewed coffee.

This weekend’s links:

Vintage photos of Disneyland. Also, The Imagineering Story on Disney Plus is a great “how’d they do that?” look at the magic of the Walt Disney Company.

Tyler Cowen’s Conversation with linguist and author John McWhorter. This fascinating and hilarious interview ranges from obscure languages, Shakespeare to Jell-o; a treat, indeed.

Bertrand Russell’s In Praise of Idleness.

Psychology Today looks at “cancel culture” and journalists. This piece is even more interesting in light of the recent resignation of New York Times Opinion Editor Bari Weiss.

What we’ve learned from racing humans against horses.

Currently Reading: All the President’s Men by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward

Have a beautiful weekend!
