Five for Friday 147

Happy Friday,

I’m sure you, like me, find yourself in the middle of about twenty-eight things to get done before Christmas. Here are some of the links waiting for us when we get some time to read and think!

Building artificial glaciers; this Afghan city collects water through the year to provide water for their crops during planting season. The photos are stunning, as well.

I came across the French bakery called Poilane two separate times this week, and I’m so glad I did. The story of how Pierre started an unlikely shop, which has made the same sourdough recipe since the 1930’s, and how his very successful daughter is working to keep it going is charming and refreshing. Pair with this article which served as the inspiration for the first.

From The Atlantic: the False Promise of Morning Routines. I think the takeaway here is to find a routine that works for you. Which applies to more than just a morning routine, by the way. I am actually working on an article outlining my own thoughts on the rise of the “morning routine” article.

A look at the photo inspiration for the costumes in the black and white film “The Lighthouse.”

Finally, I look forward to baking a new cookie recipe from Bon Appetit’s December Issue every year. Here are this year’s contenders, along with a recommendation for a cookie carrier.

Have a beautiful weekend!
