Five for Friday 110

Welcome to April!

Being a bit of a comic book movie nerd, I am thrilled to see Shazam this weekend. Maybe it’s the nerd in me, but I always like to brush up on the comic book version before seeing the movie. Here is a summary should you be so inclined. Speaking of books, I mentioned last week that I’d decide how I felt about this piece, “Liking Books is not a Personality”. I especially enjoyed her outlining the commodity fad currently present in “book culture.” While I agree that one’s taste or distaste for reading does not constitute a personality, I think we are firmly in a moment where “bookishness” has become a hobby and, sometimes, a source of pride. Personality, no, but definitely an identifiable trait, for better or worse. We are certainly in an interesting moment of commercialization of everything!

Here are five other topics I’m exploring this weekend:

An interesting idea for saving the news media. It’s a timely topic, and worth considering who and what constitutes news these days.

A beautiful look inside a working printing plant. I cannot overstate how beautiful and dynamic the photos accompanying that piece are. Just stunning.

A round-up of favorite sea salts, according to nine chefs. Pair with Epicurious’ video on cheap v. expensive salt.

This recent profile on the always charming, one-of-a-kind Hugh Jackman.

What a brilliant project benefiting charities; Second Lives for Set Lists. (via Joy the Baker)

As always, have a beautiful weekend!
