Five for Friday 105

A very happy first of March to you,

I hope you’ve had a good week and have a wonderful weekend ahead. This week I have been dialing in efforts to make my business more focused, and my brain is ready for a rest!

This weekend’s links are:

Being a Texan in South Carolina at the moment, I’m on the search for the best local barbecue. I came across this guide to regional barbecue, and this primer, and am now researching destinations for a quick day-trip. Yum!

This interesting article looking at the realities involved with the idealized message of cooking at home. Having recently moved (twice), I can say from experience that there are certainly places where it is more difficult to cook at home than others.

This wonderful post about broadening your horizons by way of global reading. Ann Morgan’s TED Talk is fascinating, acknowledging the challenges for smaller countries to translate books into English and sharing uplifting stories of how many people are truly willing to help. Also, explore her accompanying blog, which details her year-long journey!

With viral hoaxes making the rounds again, Wired’s piece about how not to fall for them speaks to the true issue, concern for our children. Pair with this quick summary of how to be a better news consumer, and we should be armed to deal with whatever nefarious story pops up.

Finally, from the archives, another foray into words. As I was writing this week, I stumbled across this origin tale of Frankenwords and the like. Also, it delights me to no end knowing that “Frankenword” is a ‘word.’
